Short Vowel Sounds and Alphabet


This Starfall website is an educational site for kids, parents and children with learning disabilities. The student will learn the phonic sounds of the letters and also the short vowel sound of the letters displayed. The Capital letters blocks provides further activities for students to follow and concrete pictures are highlighted, thereby the child is able to comprehend and build on his knowledge, when the object presents itself in the real world. This activity is for children between the ages of five to twelve years. It is interactive and reinforcement is also provided with each activity. It is a perfect way for a teacher to introduce a lesson on phonics. The site is easily accessible for parents to let get their child started on an educational journey and have fun doing so.
Use the following link http://starfall.com/n/level-k/index/load.htm?f to get unto the page. when there, click on the vowels and get the sound of each vowel is sounded and an action is also provided in a song format. The child's listening skills will be tested, as the child will then have to sing along. The green arrow pointing right, allows for progression through the site. Further clicking on the capital letters provides further activities for the child to follow. Development of vocabulary and spelling skills can also be reinforced.

I know this site is quite educational, I had first hand experience with the pre-schoolers I taught previously. You'll be amazed at the response of the kids when they go on. They have a blast.

Sounds great, but with so much software for kids out there, we really have to evaluate them properly before purchasing them.
